If you want to go straight to the action.
As an international boutique law firm, we are particularly proud of our collegial culture and warm work environment. If you are a recent graduate or lateral hire, you can expect a steep learning curve and, ultimately, the chance to become a partner. You can also look forward to an excellent salary and a healthy work/life balance.
Train to be an entrepreneurially minded lawyer
Training on the job
You will work in your chosen area with a number of partners with various specializations who will help you acquire a broad range of knowledge and develop your own unique style. At GOF, you will be closely involved in client matters right from the start and communicate with clients directly.
On projects in the mid-cap sector, you will develop your skills in legal drafting, negotiation and project management. This early involvement gives our lawyers a significant edge over their peers in the big international firms.
GOF Academy
We also offer training that is not directly related to our work for clients. For this purpose, we have developed our GOF Academy program, which imparts legal and business know-how in the relevant subject areas as well as useful soft skills:
- In regular, interactive seminars, you will receive practical training from our partners in the areas of corporate law, M&A, private equity and finance.
- In the areas of antitrust law, foreign trade law, labor law and tax law, we also hold regular seminars with our renowned partner law firms.
- A two-day seminar on accounting and company valuation will give you an understanding of business management.
- You will learn how to juggle numbers in our Excel course. But we also train soft skills (e.g., body language, rhetorics and, negotiation management).
Career path with the opportunity to become a partner
Recent graduates and lateral hires have a genuine opportunity to become partners in our firm. Being geared for growth, it is our firm intention to regularly appoint partners from within our own staff.
Your career path with GOF:
- As an Associate at GOF, you will be closely involved in client work from the very beginning and will maintain independent contact with our clients.
- With the appointment to Senior Associate after the 3rd year of your career, you will be more deeply involved in economic issues of client management (pricing, budgeting, billing), business development (e.g., participation in pitches) as well as team management and organization (management of workstreams, mentoring of Associates). During your training, there will be a strong focus on negotiation skills and independent legal work. As a Senior Associate, you will also play a particularly important role in recruiting and training younger colleagues as well as in overall law firm issues (knowledge management, associate representation, etc.).
- From the 8th year of your career, you can become a (salary) partner with us. The evaluation process for this takes place in the previous year. We actively support our candidates in building up their own business case.
Good work/life balance
The job as a business lawyer is clearly a very challenging. Nevertheless, we firmly believe in maintaining a good work/life balance. This means that weekends and holidays remain free of work whenever possible. When it comes to home office, we rely on trust instead of rigid guidelines. Work can also be done from home office on a self-determined basis. However, in order to maintain our office culture and team spirit, it is important to us that the majority of our work is done in the office.
On 30 days of vacation, our attorneys can leave their work completely behind them.
Flexible employment conditions
The world of work is becoming increasingly flexible, and that is also true of our firm. Our aim is to be one of the most advanced and forward-looking practitioners in business law. Depending on your personal circumstances, we can therefore provide alternative working conditions, e.g., part-time employment.
Current vacancies
If you are passionate about a career as a commercial lawyer, working with high-profile clients as part of a team where each individual counts, then we look forward to receiving your application:
If you’d rather sing in a choir than hog the limelight.
The GOF spirit defines our day-to-day work culture: team performance is always more important than individual results. In our warm and collegial work environment, there is no room for silo attitudes, me-first behavior, unnecessary formality or destructive internal competition.
One of the hardest decisions for young lawyers is where to start the career. My experience during my training with GOF made in an easy one for me, a decision I have never regretted.
As a trainee I was fully involved and an integral part of a very dynamic team, which gave me a great insight into GOF. This involvement from day one is now also reflected in the pace of my development since joining the firm as a lawyer.
